Verity One’s San Francisco Bay Oyster Restoration Initiative
Executive Summary
San Francisco Bay is experiencing critical water pollution due to aging sewer infrastructure, resulting in over 1.8 billion gallons of untreated sewage discharged into the bay and Pacific Ocean since 2016. In response, over $169 million annually is earmarked for water remediation through government agencies.
Verity One Ltd. introduces a nature-based, tech-enhanced solution using oysters for water filtration. This project will:
- Deploy oyster reefs and floating farms to remove nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and microplastics.
- Generate Nutrient Credits (NCs) and Environmental Impact Tokens using blockchain.
- Leverage IoT sensors, AI analytics, and Verity One Scanner™ for live monitoring.
This solution is aligned with the funding scope of:
- San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority
- EPA’s SF Bay Program
- San Francisco Estuary Partnership
The Problem
Pollution Crisis
- Billions of gallons of untreated wastewater released from aging infrastructure
- Excess nutrients (N & P) causing algal blooms and oxygen-starved dead zones
- Microplastics and heavy metals impacting marine ecosystems and seafood safety
Available Funding
- $50M/year – SF Bay Restoration Authority
- $54M/year – EPA SF Bay Program Office
- $25M/year – SF Estuary Partnership
- $40M/year – SF Bay Water Quality Improvement Fund
Verity One’s Oyster-Based Water Remediation
1. Natural Filtration
- Fixed oyster reefs in targeted restoration zones
- Floating farms near industrial runoff
- Oyster bag systems for estuarine deployment
- Each oyster filters 50–130 gallons/day
2. Nutrient Credits & Tokenization
- Every 10,000 oysters = 1 rack = quantifiable NCs
- Registered on Hyperledger, Polygon, and XRP Ledger
- Corporations can offset pollution through NCs
- Pearl Tokens represent progress and tradeable ESG value
3. Transparent Monitoring with IoT + AI
- Real-time data on pollutant levels, oyster health, and nutrient removal
- Accessible to stakeholders via Verity One Scanner™ App
Phased Implementation
Phase 1: Pilot (6–12 Months)
- Launch in collaboration with the SF Estuary Partnership
- Deploy 5 acres of oyster infrastructure and sensors
- Issue first NCs on blockchain
Phase 2: Expansion (12–24 Months)
- Grow to 20+ acres
- Integrate NC markets for municipal and private buyers
- Begin linking Verity One platform to EPA, NOAA, USDA data
Phase 3: Full Regional Rollout (24+ Months)
- Scale to 100+ acres across the bay
- Secure long-term funding via public-private partnerships
- Expand to LA River, Puget Sound, and Columbia River Basin
Funding Strategy
1. Grants
- Targeting all four major SF Bay funding agencies
2. Private Sector
- Utilities and shipping firms buy NCs to meet compliance
- ESG investors buy tokens to fund environmental impact
3. Market Monetization
- Each 1,000 Pearl Tokens = 1 NC
- NCs priced at $5,350
- Fractional NCs allow micro-investment and participation
Outcomes & Impact
Water Quality
- Measurable reduction of N, P, and microplastics
Biodiversity
- Restoration of native oyster beds and estuarine ecosystems
- Support for fisheries and aquatic life
Economy
- Creation of green jobs
- Development of a regenerative aquaculture sector
Conclusion
Verity One’s initiative for the San Francisco Bay blends nature and technology into a scalable, fundable solution for California’s coastal challenges. With measurable impact, public funding support, and blockchain-verifiable data, this project is ready to turn pollution into proof.
Next Steps:
- Open regulatory discussion with EPA, SF Estuary Partnership, and local agencies
- Secure seed investment and grant funding
- Launch 5-acre pilot zone and begin issuing NCs
